Upstate High Schools Ranked Among 2007's Best by Newsweek

Newsweek recently released the 2007 list of best high schools in the US, and several Upstate schools are among those recognized. Greenville County boasts the most SC schools on the list, with six.

Southside High School in Greenville was the County's top spot on the list, ranked at #74. Mauldin High School made the list at #268, and the Governor's School for Arts & Humanities took spot #495. Wade Hampton High and JL Mann, both also in Greenville, are #622 and #825 on the list, respectively. Woodmont High School in Piedmont is ranked #1126.

Spartanburg High School of Spartanburg District 7 is listed at #707, and Spartanburg District 4's Woodruff High is #798.

Pickens County's DW Daniel High School in Central, SC, is #848 on the list.

Public schools are ranked by Newweek according to a ratio devised by Jay Mathews. This ration takes into account the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2006. This number is then divided by the number of graduating seniors. For more information, visit www.newsweek.com
