Hell Hole Swamp is a swamp in northeastern Berkeley County, South Carolina - and is famous for its unique name. It is located entirely within the Francis Marion National Forest and contains 2,125 acres, all of which is designated as a wilderness area.

Swamp Fox Passage Hike

Come and enjoy what Francis Marion National Forest has to offer in the early spring! We will be hiking on the Swamp Fox Passage with Master Naturalist and conservation enthusiast Tom Burst. The early spring wildflowers will be starting to show their colors, and the birds beginning to chirp. Walk along a creek that was part of an old inland rice field. Bring your water, lunch, binoculars and enjoy a great outing. Rated easy about 8 miles.

Paddling the Pasture on Lake Moultrie

Known as Dennis's Pasture, or as the Cow Pasture this section of Lake Moultrie comprises the area between the Jungle and Bonneau Beach and consists of numerous small islands and open bays of varying depths and vegetation. The density of islands and cypress groves offers good wind protection, and we could easily spend a full day exploring the area.
