Greenville Drive Making Push for Playoffs

As the Greenville Drive’s 2015 regular season approaches the finish line, reaching the South Atlantic League playoffs is still very much in play.

With eight games remaining in the second half of the season, the Savannah Sand Gnats hold a six-game lead in the Southern Division. However, because Savannah won the first half title, if they were to win the second half as well, the other Southern Division playoff spot would go to a wild card team that posted the next best overall record for the season. In this scenario, the Drive and Asheville Tourists are currently tied for the wild card spot.

If the Drive do take home the Southern Division wild card spot, Fluor Field would host game one of the Divisional Championship Series on Wednesday, September 9th at 7:00 PM.

If a team other than Savannah were to win the Southern Division in the second half, the Drive would be eliminated from playoff contention. Currently, Asheville is the remaining team with a mathematical possibility to knock Savannah from atop the division.

The Drive roster has been a source of top talent in professional baseball all season long, and the team currently features six players among MLBPipeline’s top 20 Red Sox prospects, including 2B Yoan Moncada (#1), 3B Rafael Devers (#2), OF Andrew Benintendi (#6), SS Javier Guerra (#7), 3B Michael Chavis (#11) and 1B/OF Nick Longhi (#20).

Fans, the playoff dream is still alive for your Drive, so we kindly ask you to “Bring it in, Greenville” and cheer on some of the future Boston Red Sox as they aim to make a run to the South Atlantic League postseason!
