The new bike fix-it station is equipped with all the tools—screwdrivers, wrenches, Allen keys, and an air pump—to perform most basic repairs and maintenance from changing a flat tire to adjusting brakes and gears.
Bicycles can be suspended from the station’s hanger arms, allowing pedals and wheels to spin freely while making repairs. A QR code on the front of the station enables users to view detailed repair instructions on a smartphone.
“The new bike fix-it station is part of Greenlink’s ongoing commitment to help create a multimodal transportation network throughout Greenville,” said Transit Director Mark Rickards. “We appreciate Southern First Bank partnering with us to provide the first public bike repair station in the downtown area.”
Greenlink’s multimodal initiatives include bike racks installed on the front of all buses and BikeLids, a bike locker rental program that was expanded earlier this year. The bikes-on-buses program has been so successful that triple transit racks soon will be installed to replace the double position bike racks now on the Greenlink fleet, Rickards said.
Greenlink provides fixed route transportation services Monday through Saturday throughout Greenville County. The system operates the Clemson Commuter, Clemson Connector and CU-ICAR/St. Francis Shuttle, and owns and operates Greenville’s downtown trolleys. The transit system also includes Greenville Area Paratransit (GAP), an ADA service for those unable to use Greenlink’s fixed route service.
