Fire Department Teams Up with Teddy Bear Hugs on Comfort Bears Project

The Greenville City Fire Department has teamed up with Teddy Bear Hugs, a local volunteer organization, to host a family-friendly community event at the North Main Fire Station, located at 801 Rutherford Road, on Saturday, November 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

To participate, individuals are asked to purchase a stuffable teddy bear online between now and 12 p.m. on November 8, then come to the fire station on November 22 to pick up and stuff their teddy bear. Teddy bears are $12 each, which includes a 16-inch teddy bear, stuffing and a red heart to hide inside the bear. Teddy bears are available to adopt or donate. Donated bears will go to Safe Harbor and aboard the City’s fire trucks to be given to children who are victims of a fire. Individuals can also sponsor a teddy bear. For each sponsored bear, Teddy Bear Hugs will invite a less fortunate child to attend the event and receive a bear.

In addition to the teddy bear component, the event will also feature the Greenville City Fire Department’s Fire and Life Safety House, tours of the fire station, an opportunity for children to climb aboard the fire trucks, games, prizes and a special appearance by Santa.

During the event, the Greenville City Fire Department will be collecting donations for its annual fundraiser, Operation Santa Claus. The money raised will be used to purchase gifts for a family stricken by fire this year, and the gifts will be delivered by Santa and Greenville City firefighters via fire truck this holiday season.
