The streets of downtown Greenville are alive once again as Fall for Greenville celebrates its 21st year of highlighting the best local restaurants and live music through Sunday. This three-day festival showcases the finest local eateries, taps the best from an abundance of terrific local music talent, and keeps the fall air charged with music and an eclectic mix of herbs, spices, and aromatic dishes that are sure to please almost anyone who attends. The Budweiser Clydesdales will get the festivities started with a big kick at 5 PM on Friday. These spectacular horse teams are a very popular attraction wherever they go. First used by Anheuser-Busch to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the distinctive horses have been associated with the company ever since. Anheuser-Busch has very specific guidelines for the massive, yet docile, horses that are on their teams. In order for a horse to qualify for the Anheuser-Busch team, he must be a gelding (neutered male) at least four years old. He must be six feet tall (at the shoulders), and be bay-colored. These horses must also weigh between 1,800-2,000 pounds, have four white stocking feet, a blaze of white on the face, and a black mane and tail. Once the music starts, it will be non-stop as five big music stages keep the party going each day of the festival (see schedule below). Music styles range from rock to jazz to country. There is plenty of fun scheduled for the younger crowd in the TeleTech Children's Area, located in the back of Piazza Bergamo. Amusement rides, interactive games, face painting, and live performances are all part of the fun. Various performers will hula-hoop, juggle, dance, and perform magic. While most activities in the Children's Area are free, some of the rides require tickets.
For beer lovers, the Sprint PCS Specialty Beer Garden features over 40 different beers from some of the most popular local microbreweries as well as large distributors. The Beer Garden is located on West Washington Street. Fall for Greenville runs from 5 - 11 PM on Friday, 11 AM - 11 PM on Saturday, and noon - 7 PM on Sunday.
