Fall for Greenville Funds Local Projects Through Grant Program

Fall for Greenville board members presented $35,000 to four local nonprofit organizations. With the success of the 2013 festival, local organizations had the opportunity to apply for festival funds to help support special community projects.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to expand our charitable giving this year to include grant funding for nonprofits,” said Bob Munnich, Board Chair, Fall for Greenville Board of Trustees. “It is through the overwhelming support of community partners and record taste ticket sales that additional funds were available for these well-deserving organizations.”

Fall for Greenville awarded $5,000 grants to Sustaining Way, Loaves & Fishes and Culinary Institute of the Carolinas at Greenville Technical College. In addition, the festival presented a $20,000 grant to the Mill Village Farms Rooftop Initiative, which will help fund the first urban rooftop farm in South Carolina. The rooftop farm, located at the corner of East Washington Street and Main Street, will utilize state-of-the-art vertical, aeroponic towers that can grow fresh and healthy vegetables in just 24 days. Mill Village Farms will outfit the rooftop with up to 50 commercial tower gardens.

“The ability to grow such a large quantity of fresh vegetables, at the doorstep of downtown, will positively alter the lives of so many in need,” said Will Morin, Advisor, Mill Village Farms.

Earlier this year the festival awarded $50,000 to seven nonprofit organizations from the local community who committed substantial volunteer hours during the 2013 festival. Over the last 10 years, Fall for Greenville has donated over $400,000 to the local community. A portion of this year’s festival proceeds will benefit eight local charities.
