Greenville's "Downtown Alive" Returns for 2010 Season

The weekly music series at Hyatt Plaza on Main Street is back for the 2010 season for 24 weeks through early September. Featuring local, regional and national entertainers with sounds including rock, blues, funk, and cover bands.

A total of approximately 45,000 people attend this event annually and it is the single largest fundraiser for the Metropolitan Arts Council.

Kicking off the series on the March 18 will be The Will. The Will consists of five, diverse musicians from the Greenville, SC area. While they are young in age, they have the sophisticated sound of a group much more advanced in years and experience. The band formed in the summer of 2006. Prior to its development, front man Jordan Dyar and lead guitarist Ryan Stearns collaborated on various works, in 2003, calling themselves “Halfway to Popular.” The two played a few shows before drifting due to Ryan’s enrollment at The University of South Carolina. Jordan used this time to complete some solo projects he had begun work on with friend and producer Jason McCormack of Medicine Music an independent label. Ryan also continued to write material as he studied music at The University of South Carolina where he met Jonathan Willimon, the bands pianist.

The band’s diversity of musical interest causes their influences to come from a large array of talent. Each of the members has their own unique background and preferences. The band has a sound that is reminiscent of anything from Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, Coldplay and beyond. They mesmerize their audiences with the depth of their music. The Will can resonate in any crowd, and offers a flexible variety of cover material as well the bands’ authentic, indie-rock sound of their originals. This original sound is a blend of smooth acoustic and edgy, alternative rock. Jordan’s vocals are rich, velvety and heartfelt. The haunting lyrics, soulful guitar and tasteful piano make the music timeless and intensely enjoyable for all ages. Their passion for writing and performing is glowingly evident and they want to share this passion with as many people as possible. The band is currently researching various record labels.
