DTA Kicks Off ‘Gimme the Gig’ Competition

Piedmont Natural Gas Downtown Alive recently kicked off its annual Gimme the Gig competition, inviting bands to battle for a chance to earn a paid gig at the weekly series on August 25th and eight hours of recording studio time at Sit-N-Spin Recording Studios.

In its first year, nearly 15 bands submitted entries and 1,500 votes were cast during the weeklong voting period. 2015 Gimme the Gig winner Brooks Dixon and the Noble Sound formed the band with a group of young talent in hopes of entering the music scene. Since winning the contest, the band has released a six-song EP, “Weather the Storm,” and played various venues throughout the Upstate.

Participating bands will ultimately be narrowed down to a group of finalists, giving music fans the opportunity to cast a vote for their favorite band online at events.greenvillesc.gov/gimmethegig. The band receiving the largest number of votes will earn a paid gig and recording studio time.

To enter, bands can submit their audio or video through June 1st to Josh McGee, entertainment coordinator, at [email protected]. The contest is free and additional rules are online at events.greenvillesc.gov/gimmethegig.
