It may not be Fort Myers, Florida but the Greenville Drive are hosting their own version of “Spring Training” .
As part of Activate Upstate’s free, year-round initiative to support a healthy lifestyle, the Drive will open up Flour Field at the West End to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, weather permitting, so that participants are able to walk the field’s warning track as part of their exercise regimen. “A healthy lifestyle, through proper nutrition and exercise is something that the Drive organization believes in,” commented team General Manager Mike deMaine. “Opening up Fluor Field to the public is just another instance of the Drive promoting a healthy lifestyle. In addition, fans will notice healthier food options at each of our concession stands during the 2008 season.” Interested lunch walkers will enter Fluor Field through the Main Street gates and may enter the field through section 103. The initiative will continue throughout the Drive’s season, which begins on April 3rd, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays when the team is on the road.
Regular physical activity reduces the risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure. It helps control weight and contributes to healthy bones, muscles, and joints. It helps relieve the pain of arthritis and reduces the symptoms of anxiety and depression. People of all ages who are generally inactive can improve their health and well being by becoming active at a moderate-intensity on a regular basis. “We applaud the Drive for opening Fluor Field at the West End to walkers during the lunch hour because it gives our community another opportunity to get outside and be active,” said Robyn Zimmerman, director of public and community relations for Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center. “This is a great way to keep the momentum of Activate Upstate alive and to encourage people to continue their journey to good health.” Drive ticket plans, accommodations, and group outings for the 2008 season are currently on sale and can be ordered by calling the Drive at (864) 240-4500.
