When the Greenville Drive open the 2006 season in their new downtown stadium they will be playing on a field that will rival the best in professional baseball. To oversee this important element of the new stadium construction, the Drive have secured the services of Roger Bossard, a world renowned engineer of athletic fields and playing surfaces. Bossard, a third generation groundskeeper, has directed the construction for the fields at 9 of the last 13 Major League Baseball stadiums. Including his grandfather, father, uncle, and cousin, the Bossard family has over 200 years of experience in groundskeeping. Roger Bossard is the premier designer in athletic fields, and has played a key role in creating fields for numerous Major League Clubs, commented Drive team president Craig Brown. We are delighted to have a person with his expertise and experience direct the construction of the playing field at the new Greenville Drive stadium.
Roger Bossard, who is also the head groundskeeper for the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox, has constructed the fields at some of the most popular stadiums in Major League Baseball, including Detroit Tigers Comerica Park, Seattles Safeco Field, Miller Park in Milwaukee, and is currently working on the field at the new stadium for the St. Louis Cardinals. In addition, he was responsible for the renovation of Bostons historic Fenway Park in 2004. Roger did a truly amazing job, stated Red Sox Director of Grounds David Mellor. On December 1, Bossard began working on the field at the Drives new downtown stadium. His work will include installing the irrigation and sand based drainage systems as well as the warning track, pitchers mound, and bullpen mounds. The sod will be laid on February 1, allowing sufficient time for the grass to take root and stabilize for Opening Day on April 6, 2006.
