Clemson to Play Orange and Purple Game at Fluor Field

For the second consecutive season, the Clemson University baseball team will play the final game of their 2014 Orange and Purple series at Fluor Field, home of the Greenville Drive.

Fluor Field will host the nine-inning game on Sunday, October 26th at 1:30 PM. Admission is complimentary, and the Main Street gate will open at noon before the teams take batting practice.

A concession stand will be open for fans to purchase food and beverage, and a merchandise stand will be open for fans to purchase Greenville Drive and Clemson apparel.

“We couldn’t be happier to extend our relationship with Clemson University and their baseball program as we host an Orange and Purple game at Fluor Field,” said Drive General Manager Eric Jarinko. “This will be a great opportunity for Clemson fans to get an early look at the 2015 Clemson Tigers baseball team, and it will also be a chance for fans who miss the Drive to watch baseball in the beautiful setting of Downtown Greenville.”

“We are excited about returning to Fluor Field to play a game in the fall for the second year in a row,” added Clemson Head Coach Jack Leggett. “It’s great to bring some fall baseball action to Greenville on a Sunday afternoon. We look forward to playing at Fluor Field every year in the spring, and this is another opportunity to get our fans and players around a tremendous atmosphere for baseball.”

The Orange and Purple games serve as Clemson’s intrasquad series to cap off team practice for the fall. The baseball team will be divided up into two squads and play against each other with bragging rights on the line.

The Tigers return five of nine offensive starters and four of the top five pitchers in innings thrown from last year’s team that went 36-25.

Among the leading offensive returners are junior outfielder Steven Duggar (.294, 36 RBI, 25 steals in 2014), junior shortstop Tyler Krieger (.338, 32 RBI, 19 steals), sophomore catcher Chris Okey (.248, 41 RBI), and senior outfielder Tyler Slaton (.274, 25 RBI, 11 steals).

Junior left-hander Matthew Crownover (8-6, 2.90 ERA, 99 1/3 innings) returns to anchor the pitching staff, and adding to the squad’s pitching depth are junior left-hander Zack Erwin (4-3, 4.21 ERA, 72.2 innings), junior right-hander Clate Schmidt (5-7, 3.68, 66 innings), and senior right-hander Jake Long (3-3, 5.30, 56 innings).

The Tigers can be seen at Fluor Field this spring as well, including a game in the annual Reedy River Rivalry series against the University of South Carolina on Saturday, February 28th.
