Frederick Knott’s suspense thriller, Wait Until Dark, introduces us to Susy Hendrix, a woman recently blinded and struggling to adapt.
A sinister con man, Roat, and his two accomplices have traced the location of a mysterious doll to the Greenwich Village apartment where Susy lives with her husband, Sam. It seems that Sam has been persuaded by a strange woman to transport the doll across the Canadian border, unaware that it contains something that people are willing to kill for. While Sam is away, Roat weaves a deadly web of deception around Susy that climaxes in a heart-pounding game of cat and mouse.
Sponsored by Pelham Architects and directed by David Sims, our production features recent North Greenville University graduate, Amanda Cumbo making her Centre Stage debut as Susy Hendrix. Chris White (The Mystery of Irma Vep) portrays Roat, joined by J. Michael Craig (I Am My Own Wife, Moonlight and Magnolias), Bryan Gallagher, Rhydwin Davies and Alexis Krcelic.
An undisputed Broadway hit (and later a successful movie), Wait Until Dark was described by the New York Post as “a first-rate shocker…the suspense drama we’ve long awaited.” Wait Until Dark, starring Amanda Cumbo and Chris White, runs through March 15 at Centre State SC. Special late-night presentations of “The Fear Project” will follow selected performances. See inside for more information about “Fear,” as well as the concurrent gallery exhibit, “Found Objects.” Centre Stage-South Carolina is a professional theatre committed to the core ideal of engaging the community with innovative approaches to performance and production, enriching the local artistic landscape and enhancing the quality of life with uncompromising theatrical integrity.
