Furman Celebrates Homecoming Oct. 20-22

Furman University will celebrate its 2017 Homecoming Oct. 20-22 with a variety of events that are open to the public.

Friday’s highlights include exhibitions hosted by Special Collections and Archives (“Book Illustration Processes 1498-2016,” James B. Duke Library); Furman Department of Art (Alumna exhibition, Argent, smarter workwear for women, Thompson Gallery, Roe Art Building); Undergraduate Evening Studies (Various Selves: Identity & Identities, Baiden Gallery, Herring Center for Continuing Education). Float-building activities will take place on the Furman Mall Friday (7-11 p.m.) during a carnival featuring rides, food and music sponsored by the Student Alumni Council (SAC) and Furman University Student Activities Board (FUSAB).

Other highlights for Friday include a Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combos concert in Daniel Recital Hall (admission $5), and a bonfire and pep rally led by cheerleaders, football team captains and Paladin head football coach Clay Hendrix. The concert and the pep rally begin at 8 p.m. Friday.

Ahead of the kickoff against the Mercer Bears Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Paladin Stadium, Alumni and Parent Engagement is hosting a ticketed BBQ lunch, and various departments are hosting drop-ins 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the Furman Mall. The cost for lunch tickets is $17.50 per person; children four and under eat free. Registration closes one week prior to the event (Oct. 13). Limited tickets will be available at the door while supplies last for $20 per ticket.

Following the football game, the Furman men’s soccer team takes on East Tennessee State University at 7 p.m. Saturday at Stone Soccer Stadium. Tickets are $5.

Throughout the weekend, Barnes & Noble at Furman bookstore will be open in the Trone Student Center with Homecoming specials and Homecoming hours, including Sunday (10 a.m.-3 p.m.).
