2014 Fall Classic Golf Tournament Provides More than 22,000 Meals

Nearly 150 golfers teed off at the Fall Classic Charity Golf Tournament benefitting Meals on Wheels of Greenville.

Held at the Cliffs Valley Golf Course, players in morning and afternoon flights enjoyed a beautiful day of golf, barbecue luncheon on the driving range, and great prize opportunities.

The excitement began Monday night at the pre-tournament Pairings Party where guests enjoyed food and drinks, and all players had the opportunity to choose a Peter Millar gift package. Attendees also bid on various silent auction items, including entry for 2 to the Lexus Champions for Charity Tournament at Pebble Beach Resorts in Pebble Beach, California. The winning bidder, Southern First Bank, will represent Meals on Wheels of Greenville and play for a share of the Lexus Champions’ $100,000 purse.

Thirty-six teams competed in Tuesday’s Fall Classic for the coveted Don Hammons Trophy. In the end, the morning victory went to Michael’s Janitorial, shooting a 53, while Heiser Distributors came away with the best score of the day, shooting a 52. Players from both first-place teams received a certificate for a new set of tires, courtesy of Michelin North America.

“The Meals on Wheels mission has benefitted greatly from the support of members of our community,” comments David Thomas, event chairman and account executive for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. “I want to thank all of our sponsors and participating teams, and especially JHM Properties, who graciously hosted our Pairings Party at their Downtown Hyatt location. A very special thank you to Reed Wilson and Palmetto Technology Group for their generosity in being our Presenting Sponsor.”

Overall, the 2014 Fall Classic raised enough money to help Meals on Wheels of Greenville deliver more than 22,000 meals and smiles to Greenville neighbors.
